Our Guest Speaker, Ali Templeton, gave a very lively and interesting demonstration of meat and fish-free meals, popular dishes for all the family, all quick and easy to prepare, cook and serve. Ali, her husband and their daughter, were all very relaxed, with a happy-chatty style, for the presentation of her three dishes.
A mild-medium vegetable curry with smooth peanut butter to thicken, giving it a smooth silky taste and texture; delicious, very good and so quick to cook. Ali’s second dish of Kedgeree with Quorn, was based more on the original Indian Khichri containing no fish, rather being just a mixture of lentils and rice cooked with spices. Our English Kedgeree of rice with flaked fish, hard-boiled eggs, curry flavouring, butter, parsley and cream evolved from this original recipe. Ali’s recipe took only 20-35 minutes to cook and was another delicious meal to sample. Her third recipe was for an apple pudding of Caramelized Apple with orange butter sauce served with Creme Fraiche and crisp almond biscuits. Decidedly yummy and more-ish, a quick and easy pudding to put together and serve.
All recipes came from Ali’s book – “Going Green” – “big flavours without meat” – of which I understand she made good sales to members, when we had all sampled her lovely three offerings! Her are some photo-shots of Ali’s Demonstration –

Pauline gave the vote of thanks in which she commented “it’s really nice to see different dishes prepared, cooked amd presented”. Members gathered about Ali as she was packing things away, asking questions and chatting with friends and looking at Ali’s books. We had enjoyed a most successful cookery demonstration for our October WI meeting.
