the WI Adderbury & District WI – Wild Flower Gardening – Thursday, 24th August 2017 – Adderbury Lakes & KHH

Posted by on Aug 25, 2017 in Reflections

Dear Members,

Adderbury Team WI were at Adderbury Lakes yesterday Thursday, 24th August, removing unwanted plant material from our main site, around our ox-eye daisies, plus hoeing our extn. bed where we have a bright array of wild flowers in bloom. There’s no sign of any growth from new sowings made on our recent wild flower walk. We will keep this extn. bed clear of weeds to assist our plants for next year.

We were also at KHH working on our WI Grow Wild areas where new sowings in May are now growing very well with Corncockle, Corn Chamomile and others hopefully will soon bloom.

We have one poppy already in bloom but it is a cultivated poppy from plant material deposited before we began growing our site. A wild poppy plant may yet appear.

The Viper’s Bugloss is in flower again and we will endeavour to collect seeds in time. Our Corn Chamomile plants are maturing and we will gather dried seed heads shortly, perhaps next week.
