Thursday, 2nd October – Happenings Events and Future Activies – WI Meeting at The Institute

Pauline, standing in for Caroline, welcomed all members and one guest and reminded all to make sure they registered their attendance at each WI meeting, for health and safety reasons.  The Minutes of the meeting held on Thursday, 4th September were approved as correct and signed by Pauline.

Matters arising –

Christmas Market – members were asked to add their name to the list for producers of goodies and/or as helpers for this event on Saturday, 29th November.  Christmas Tree Festival – we are to decorate our tree from 1pm on 4th December.  Virginia has suggested hanging decorated red lidded jam jars with various items appropriate for a WI tree.  A group will be set up to agree a theme and make decorations and volunteers were invited to join orf lead this group.  Christmas Meal  Carrol Eaton displayed a sign-up sheet to record members choice of main course and dessert and to say if they will be able to help

WI Calendar for 2016 – Margaret Halstead reported that four new members have joined the group for the Calendar and that matters are going well.  Information is in the current edition of Contact and will be updated in subsequent months.  Members were invited to “start snapping” seasonal shots “recognisable” as  Adderbury and “Pauline thanked Diane and the group for their ex ellent work”.

Charity fund-raising event for Frank Wise School –  A swishing evening will be held in the New Year and open to all in the village and district; a group will be required to “develop” this event.

Correspondence – A letter from the PTA at Christopher Rawlins School has been received, requesting help for their fund-raising fireworks display on 8th November at Bo-Peep Farm; a helper sign-up sheet for member’s names and telephone numbers will be passed to Caz Stokes.  For the district meeting on 15th October, a volunteer was asked for to attend and give a brief report of the proceedings, at our next meeting on 6th November; further details would be provided by Caroline .

Future activities Sheila Pollard would lead the circular walk in Shennington and Alkerton on Friday, 3 rd October, followed by a pub lunch.  The book group will meet on Wed. 8th October at Carda Traunero ‘s for Catherine Bailey’s book – “Black Diamonds”.  The reorganised needlecraft group’s first meeting will be hosted by Maureen Banks on Wednesday, 15th October from 7.30 to 9 pm.

Community items:  January’s First Aid course is now fully booked and members  need to give the £25 fee to Pauline as soon as possible.  Places for the second course on 18 and 19 February are still available and members should get in touch with Debbie Dickinson to book.  Bernice reminded members about the Quaker Meeting House open day on Sat. 4th October from 11 to 3 o’clock.  An Open Day  at Christopher Rawlins School on Thursday 9th October at 7.30 pm for those interested in learning more about Taoist Tai Chi ; a beginners course will begin on Thurs. 16th Oct.  Bloxham Flower Club will present a Christmas-themed demo. at Blessed George Napier School on 20th November, with tickets at £8.00

Members were encouraged to continue to make contributions to the BYHP box – such help is always most gratefully received.

Our next Adderbury WI meeting will be on Thursday, 6th November at 7.30 p,m at The Institute when Guest Speaker, Cymon Snow, will talk about Sulgrave Manor
