WI Christmas Party – Thursday, 4th December 2014

Posted by on Dec 6, 2014 in Reflections

Caroline welcomed members to our December meeting and Christmas Party and proceeded with a brief business report on events, future meetings and Community items.

We have no agenda for tonight for we are eagerly looking forward to eating Carrol’s delicious food and member’s puddings and to our guest speaker, Moira Byast, with her Christmas Anthology.

WI Stall at the Adderbury Christmas Market:  We made a profit of £150.00 a portion of which will go to our charity Frank Wise School.  Our presence at the Market was very warmly welcomed and we must make plans to ensure our members cakes, bakes and makes are there at next year’s Christmas Market.

January 2015 WI Meeting:  We shall meet at the Methodist Hall on 8 January where we shall be pleased to receive your membership subscriptions.  Our guest speaker will be Allan Brewer – Humorous talk on working for BOAC (the posh bit).

Book Group: December’s meeting will be at Su Lutter’s home (8 Sydenham Close 812127) on Wednesday 10 December with Graeme Simsion’s The Rosie Project. The date for the January 2015 meeting has still to be decided as our WI meeting is being held on the second Thursday.  Details will follow.

Needlecraft Group: December’s meeting will be at Janet Morgan‘s home; please confirm your attendance – [email protected] January’s meeting date and venue remains to be arranged – details will follow.

Swishing Evening Charity Fund-raising event for February: We still need a sub-committee for this evening which we will discuss in January.  We have set-up info already for such happenings.

Community Events: FOSMA wine for Christmas presents at £7.50 per bottle, both red and white available.  Christmas Tree Festival – 5 to 7 December at the Church.  Don’t forget to vote for your favourite tree.  Focal Christmas Festive Morning Saturday 6 December at the Library, free entry plus a free glass of Punch or Soft drink and Raffle prizes to win and festive refreshments to nibble on.  Christmas by Candlelight at the Church, Saturday 13 December, at 7.30pm with the Christ Church Cathedral Singers – a festive concert in aid of FOSMA. Adderbury Community Food Market Thursday 18 December 6 – 8.30pn at The Institute for lovely Christmas food and the chance to sing Christmas carols, with words provided by Debbie.

Don’t forget to vote for your favourite Christmas tree at the Church.

Moira Byast  entertained us  with her witty Christmas Anthology – “The Ghost of Christrmas Past”  and we laughted and applauded her story and  brilliant recitation.  Her words delightfully filled the interval between our delicious main course and dessert, definitely evoking the spirit and joy of Christmas.  Caroline  thanked Moira warmly for her talk. concluding her words with a Christmas joke of her own, for a future anthology.

Photo-shots were taken throughout the evening and a few are shown below.  Photographs of tables settings will be available to view on 8  January at our next WI meeting.
