theWI Adderbury & District WI – NFWI Craft Projects – Spring Bunny – Sunday, 13th March 2016

Posted by on Mar 13, 2016 in Reflections

Dear Ladies,

Here’s a lovely Spring Bunny created by Clare  Spender who has said I might download her instructions and details for making pop-pom bunnies for your own Easter festivities.  Clare uses a commercial pom-pom maker which is available on the internet and also at the Banbury Sewing Centre, from where I purchased mine.

Spring has sprung!

So why not create your own Easter Bunny?

Have a go at …….. making a pom-pom bunny! (hop bunny hop!) Well Spring has sprung and what better way to celebrate than by making a Spring Bunny! You will need to make 3 pom-poms; I have used a pom-pom maker (which is brilliant! You can make pom poms in half the time and you can get these kits off the internet or good haberdasheries)

Create one slightly larger pom-pom than the other and a small white one for your bunny’s tail. Make sure that you use a good length of wool when knotting your pom-pom because you will need it to tie your bunny’s head and body together. Knot your head and body together as tightly as possibly so it doesn’t fall apart! Once you have your body completed you can now create ears! Cut a paper pattern to create the shape of your ears, then choose your fabric and cut 4 ears.

Place right sides together and machine stitch around (make sure your reverse stitch both ends so it doesn’t come apart when you are turning your ears the right way) I use a knitting needle to turn the fabric around. Press ears and if you desire run another line of stitching around the edge. Hand stitch your ears together and then place onto the pom-pom and secure with several good stitches though the centre (being quite careful not to pull the wool through as you are stitching!)

Now to create eyes and a nose – you can use just beads, which are very effective; however, I have used tiny felt balls cut in half with a small bead on. (you can make these yourself or purchase a small bag of them for a few pounds). I have finished off my Bunny with two wires for whiskers, which I have poked through the front of the pom-pom. Ta da – hop bunny hop!

I’ve bought a pom-pom maker from Banbury and I shall be trying it out at our March Needlecraft group meeting on Wednesday, 16th March at 46 Rochester Way…..
