Dear Ladies, “Home Fires” ITV 6-part series based on “Jambusters” by Julie Summers and Grow Wild Seed Planting at Katharine House Hospice Diane thought you might all like to hear, if you’ve not done so already, about the new 6-part ITV series – “Home Fires” which begins next Sunday, 3rd May,  at 9pm – on ITV television –   the Bank Holiday weekend – which I for one am looking forward to  very much indeed.   About “Jambusters”   ….   Julie Summers book “Jambusters”  –  a history of the Women’s Institute in wartime  as an historical overview of village institutes and tales about jam making, vegetable growing, and other activities associated with WW2..   In MailOnline posted on 24th April 2015 on FaceBook – the opening line reported – “The Jambusters!  The WI were the backbone of the Home Front in WW2, now a powerful new drama follows the war’s impact on the women of one village circle. By JULIE SUMMERS FOR THE DAILY MAIL  PUBLISHED: 23:31, 24th April 2015 | UPDATED: 23:31, 24th April 2015″   A copy of this article is in my FaceBook WI Publications File which will be at our meeting on 7th May at Church House for members to read.   FaceBook comments on “Jambusters” “Superb…this book tells a wonderful story….highly recommended.” from Who Do You Think You Are Magazine” –   from Mail on Sunday – “Julie Summers recounts how thousands of women rallied round during the dark days of Hitler, baking cakes and knitting jumpers as if their lives depended on it.”   This piece also appears on the front page of her book as does this comment from the Economist – “That image of defiant jam making sums up the way many see the wartime contribution of the Woman’s Institute.  But Julie Summers….shows its much wider contribution.”     Ref: FaceBook comments on “Jambusters” and comments shown on the front page of “Jambusters”     And now the ITV “Home Fires” series….I should think we’re all in for a great viewing season for the next six weeks!!!         GROW WILD SEEDS at KATHARINE HOUSE HOSPICE – Katharine House Hospice have very generously offered us the use of a patch of ground within their lovely gardens on which to plant the Grow Wild Seeds given to us by Kew Royal Botanic Gardens and supported by The Big Lottery.       I’ve just opened one seed kit box to find it contains – 6 packets of seeds, 5 plastic markers, a getting started guide and a DIY bee house !!! Diane, Gill and Margaret will be at the gardens on Thursday, 30th April from 9.30pm  to midday,  to start prepping the ground for planting.  We should be delighted to welcome other members to join us, if they are free and happy to do so,  to help with our patch of ground at KHH for our Adderbury & District WI wild flower garden. There is a little clearance and digging to be attempted but we have been offered some help by  Mr. Colin Sykes, who is one of the gardens volunteers’ Team Leaders, the use of their tools, a nearby water supply and quite possibly, mid-Morning Coffee with buns – so a great fun morning to look forward to! A telephone call or email to Diane, Gill or Margaret would be much appreciated so that I can tell KHH how many will be there on Thursday morning.   We are all terribly excited to be involved with this project of Kew Botanic Royal Gardens and looking forward to the planting, sowing and nurturing our new wild flower garden for...
