Adderbury Community Food Market – Thursday, 14th April 2016 – The Institute  – 6pm to 8.15pm “Next Market April 14th The April Food Market promises to offer the most delicious selection of food and drink.  The cheese selection from Open Air Foods is a fabulous.  Last month Apple Tree Dairy brought along some new products.  They are selling their home made bottled apple juice and pickled walnuts, as well as their staple organic yoghurts.  There will be fresh vegetables, fine cakes, fresh bread, savoury pies and lots more.  Come along and explore our wonderful market.”  Dear Ladies, Have you visited Adderbury’s own Community Food Market recently, seen the good food on offer or met up with friends over mouth-watering in-house comestibles and tempting liquid refreshments?  Well, Adderbury’s April Market event is on this week on Thursday, 14th April from 6 – 8.15 pm at The Institute thus providing an excellent opportunity to sample its great food and social happenings. Come for delicious supper food by Smart Cookies or occasional guest chef visit and eat in-house in The Institute’s gallery, enjoy market happenings while eating and drinking with friends, be part of the Adderbury  evening scene.  Arm yourself with shopping basket primed for delicious food buys of homemade preserves, great patisserie and bakes and scrummy nibble food items, fabulous cheeses, great ground coffee, butchery, pates and delicatessen, beautiful bread, fresh eggs, excellent gloriously flavoured gins, hot coffee and chocolate and alcoholic refreshment to devour as you shop and dine and socialise with friends and neighbours.  And discover fresh veggies, garden plants and flowers at Mr. Anson’s produce stall The Market hosts a regular Community Stall for various charity people visits from a wide variety of local  groups such as scouts, schools, fund-raising groups and occasional visits by our own WI for  our 2016 Calendar Competition  – all such charity stalls promoting current or forthcoming events, adding to the excitement of the evening with their promotional material and lively presence. I always eat supper at Adderbury’s super Community Food Market with friends and family and come home laden, mostly, with plants and veg from Mr. Anson, delicious Greek food from Ellie’s Kitchen, own delicious fruit yoghurt and apple juice from Sarah of Appletree Farm and scrumptious items from Jo Thompson of Once Bitten. The brilliant thing is that, quite apart from the shopping, eating, quaffing and friendly banter with everyone, is the ongoing friendships which have developed and blossomed over the many months of Adderbury market activity.  And the memory of past events – sitting outside on a warm summer’s evening with a plate of delicious food before one while surrounded by friends and visitors, watching swallows and swifts swoop and dive while listening to travellers’ tales, family photo-shoots at all times, autumn and winter occasions for hot delicious comfort food, anniversary events and wonderful festive occasions – it’s the Market with the Most and for  my family an absolute-must occasion not to be missed. Here’s a few of my photos from past Market occasions for you to enjoy.                            Margaret Halstead...

Posted by on Apr 11, 2016 in Reflections

Dear Ladies, My next FB post on North Cherwell Group Meeting and Women ‘s World 2016 edition which Deddington WI kindly displayed copies of for all attending members to avail themselves of a copy…and the article on P. 135 “Don’t Bin The Skin” which should provide “food for thought” for Resolution 2016 on Food Waste which every member will be discussing and voting on in May. I found it very interesting.     Friday, 8th April 2016 on our own Facebook page…… Members Who Meet – North Cherwell Group Meeting – Deddington WI most kindly provided copies of latest edition – Women’s World 2016 – just out – for all to take home. A Great Read and also – see page 135 – for brilliant article by Rebecca Hardy in the Food and Drink section “Don’t Bin The Skin” which ties in with long campaigning by WI to “minimise food waste” and the now “zero waste” trend to encourage people not to waste any food items – everything can be utilised, as this article beautifully demonstrates. So, a great read just in time for Resolutions 2016 discussions on the two chosen for final discussion – Dementia Care and Food waste. This article will help provide “food for thought” for clever foodie families everywhere. The useful recipe suggestions and tips are bound to be a hit in many kitchens xxx Margaret Halstead...

theWI Adderbury & District WI – Women’s World 2016 at North Cherwell Group Meeting – 6th April 2016 – Good Reading for Everything and Resolutions 2016

Posted by on Apr 8, 2016 in Reflections

Dear Ladies, Here’s my not so brilliant photo of Rachel Windsor-Knott, North Cherwell Group meeting guest speaker at the meeting at Deddington on Wednesday, 6th April 2016. We had been anticipating seeing a presentation by “Stunt Dogs” but due to a late date for filming in Oxford they had to postpone and another speaker found.  Well, we were all most appreciative of Deddington’s new last-minute speaker!  Rachel, as I’ve said before, was simply brilliant and her presence and presentation most welcome to all “members who meet”….     Members Who Meet …North Cherwell Group – this week at Deddington – the guest speaker, Rachel Windsor-Knott, gave her excellent presentation on “An Introduction to Applied Zoopharmacognasy” – listening to animals and helping them self-medicate – which was simply brilliant. Here’s my not so brilliant photo of Rachel at Deddington …..I’ve promised a better take next time we meet. Thank you Rachel xxx Rachel has seen my photo and very happy for me to share it with all members and I really am looking forward to another meet-up sometime and a much better photo-take… Deddington had very kindly arranged display of many copies of this year’s edition – Women ‘s World 2016 – and we were invited to help ourselves to a copy.  So far, I’ve only managed a quick look – there’s so much to see – bu t one article particularly caught my eye, that of “Don’t Bin The Skin!” highlighting long-held campaigning by our WI to “minimise food waste” and the now “zero waste” trend to encourage everyone to use all food supplies……An article by Rebecca Hardy on Page 135 in the “Food and Drink” section is very well-worth your attention and…just in time for this year’s two Resolution topics we will be discussing and voting on at our 5th May meeting at Church House at 7.30pm… Here’s the magazine front cover…  happy reading xxx Margaret...

theWI Adderbury & District – North Cherwell Group Meeting – Wednesday 6th April 2016 – for Members Who Meet

Posted by on Apr 7, 2016 in Reflections

Dear Ladies, Here’s my first Facebook posting today for the North Cherwell Group meeting several Adderbury WI members attended last night at Deddington.  It was an excellent meeting with a great presentation by Rachel Windsor-Knott on Applied Zoopharmacognosy which subject was, I have to admit, totally unknown to me before my arrival at the Rainbow Centre and the evening’s entertainment. Stella Oakes spoke on Federation news, Deddington’s President, Beryl Suckling, was in charge of proceedings and then organised  the raffle prize draw and Bodicote WI President, Jill Whitrow, gave the vote of thanks to Deddington for an excellent meeting. Next year’s North Cherwell Group Meeting will be held by Banbury WI on Tuesday, 18th April 2017, whose venue and guest speaker have already been organised and arranged.     Members who Meet – North Cherwell Group Meeting yesterday at Deddington Rainbow Centre, hosted by Deddington WI under the experienced eye of President Beryl Suckling and Group Convenor Helen Honour of Barford St. John. Guest Speaker Rachel Windsor Knott of Witney presentation introduced us to her “pet” subject – An Introduction to Applied Zoopharmacognasy” – which, basically, is all about listening t o animals and helping them self-medicate. It was absolutely riveting and fascinating – a great presentation by Rachel. And I took photos – not all brilliant I must say but here’s a few good group photos – Members Who Meet xxx 1 person reached Boost Post Like   Like   Love   Haha   Wow   Sad   Angry CommentShare Top comments 1Richard Hammond Comments Write a comment… Adderbury & District WI A raffle prize draw and delicious refreshments were very well received too – an excellent North Cherwell Group Meeting all round with many thanks to those Members Who Washed-up xxx Like · Reply · 4 mins  Margaret Halstead xxx Publish Preview Status: Draft EditEdit status Visibility: Public EditEdit visibility Publish immediately EditEdit date and time Publicize: Not Connected Show Move to Trash Toggle panel: Excerpt Excerpt Toggle panel: Categories Categories All Categories Most Used Future Events Instructions Recipes Reflections + Add New...
