Tooley's Boatyard, situated in the heart of Banbury on the South Oxford Canal is the oldest working dry dock on the Inland Waterways, having been in continuous use since 1788. Tooley's director, Matt Armitage, is here tonight and will tell us about the fascinating history of this unique boatyard, the services that they currently offer and exciting plans for the future.

Lucy's first business venture was in children's craft kits which she successfully ran whilst studying for a degree and raising three children. Upon graduating she decided to become a milliner and has since met and trained with many well known teachers both in the craft and the millinery worlds. Lucy now owns Hilary's Hat Hire in Fritwell and has recently won an international hat design competition.

November Members’ Meeting

Historian Barbara Hately will tell us this evening all about the Inland Waterways during the Second World War and how they were kept working by women who stepped in to the jobs vacated by men joining up to fight in the forces. The talk focuses on this little known area of women's war work and covers both the recruitment and conditions of service of these 'Idle Women' as they were called.
