Our AGM in January saw Pauline Brown re elected as President. Thank you to Pauline and to the other committee members for a successful year. Following the AGM we relaxed and gave our thoughts on various wines from Italy that Roger had selected for us to try. Roger explained the regions where the wines were from, their history, the grapes, how to store the wines and with which foods you should drink the wines with. Attached below are the notes on the various wines. Verdicchio Dei Castelli Di Jesi Classico Nero D’avola – Torretta Di Mondelli Gavi  – Castelvero Vino Nobile di Montepulciano – Filicheto  ...

Christmas party

Posted by on Dec 8, 2011 in Reflections

Christmas came early to Adderbury. On the 1st December we were fabulously entertained  by the Bodicote hand bell ringers. At the end of the evening the bell ringers very kindly let some of our members ‘have a go’. It was not as easy as it looked! There may have been some aching muscles the next day for those who played the heavier bells! Mulled wine, sparkling wine, lots of canapes and mince pies contributed  to a great start to December and the build up to Christmas. Thank you for your contributions to make it such a  successful evening. Happy Christmas to you...

Broughton Grange

Broughton Grange

A most enjoyable evening was had by some of the gardening enthusiasts of the Adderbury and District WI in July. Tucked away from view along Wycombe Lane and just outside the village of Broughton are the beautiful gardens of Grange Farm. A group of around 20 were shown around the tiered gardens by the Head Gardener. Hundreds of trees have been planted here over the last few years, at the edge of the main gardens, and have been under planted with a wild flower meadow. The top tier of the garden consisted of beautiful circular espalier apple trees, which encased the soft fruits of strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. The surrounding ground was full of growing seasonal vegetables. This tier led onto the pond and green house which were planted in mid summer colours of herbaceous plants, tomatoes and beautiful fuchsias. The following tier was planted in the form of the plant cell structure and was interplanted with seasonal annuals. From here the path led us down to the stumpery which lay at the bottom of the valley where the familiar Sor Brook runs its course. The land here is damp and is the perfect setting for Hosta’s and Ferns. The winding path led us back up through a wooded area past a beautiful, if a little spooky looking, tree house hide, which then led us back up to the main house where more formal box and rose gardens grew, dotted with lavender and the beautiful smelling matucana sweet pea. The evening was completed with most of us buying some beautiful plants to take home and...

Fashion Show

In May, we enjoyed a fun evening viewing high street fashions over a glass of wine. The outfits modeled by members were carefully selected to suit a range of occasions. This session fitted well with other fashion events this year including choosing the right hat and how to make the most of yourself by wearing the right colours.
