Friday, 9th September 2016 Adderbury & District WI 18 mins · Our WI GWS garden at KHH Adderbury now has cornflowers from the new seedlings planted just a few weeks ago. Clearance of spent plant matter continues and we hope to re-seed with saved seeds shortly, depending on the weather. We look forward to another year of bright wild seed flower blooms in 2017. Here is a photo from 2nd Sept. 2015 when we still had a few poppies in bloom with the corn chamomile. We hope for more poppies in 2017 xx Margaret Halstead xxx WI wild flower gardening at Adderbury Lakes WI wild flower gardening at Adderbury Lakes has temporarily been put on hold due to contractors working on the pathways about the Lakes. Our garden was bright with ox-eye daisies, a few cornflowers and one white campion when we last visited our beds. A few deadly nightshade plants have appeared and we have also hosted one selfheal plant recently. This little gem has also been spotted at other locations too which is very exciting. Earlier in the summer I spotted a lovely blue cranesbill plant and I look forward to its return sometime. Boost post Margaret Halstead...

Monday 5th September 2016 Dear Members, Our September WI meeting was great fun as we all enjoyed our evening’s visitors, Sharp and Blunt, Adderbury’s own Ladies Morris. They danced several movements for our benefit both outside The Institute and inside, also featuring a dance in which all members could take part if they wished to. Mostly we all did, filling the space with one very long line of dancers who were helped considerably to follow the steps by our lovely guests. They also sang to us, a very jolly song the tune of which must have been familiar to many – “now we are in clover” for we were singing along with the Ladies. We also heard something of the history of both folklorist collectors and musicians Janet Blunt, who collected Adderbury Morris dances and songs and Cecil Sharp, whose interest in traditional song and dance led him to found the English Folk Dance Society in 1911 and published his work English Folk-Song: Some Conclusions in 1907. Sharp and Blunt treated us to …Shepherds Hey, Seven Bells and Bowes xxx Margaret Halstead ps My apologies ladies…I forgot to mention in my original Facebook post that Sharp and Blunt created their group name from folklorist and collectors Janet Sharp of Adderbury and Cecil Sharp who founded in 1911 the English Folk Dance...
