theWI Adderbury & District WI – WI Wildflower Gardening with Adderbury Lakes Working Party – Saturday, 8th April 2017
Dear Members, Adderbury WI Wildflower gardening on Saturday 8th April with Adderbury Lakes Working Party, dividing four of our ox-eye daisy plants. They have grown so well since bedding in last spring 2016 it was thought a good idea to divide and plant out in adjacent beds to increase the wildflower stock and bring more wild blooms to Adderbury Lakes. The plants were in very shallow beds making it quite easy to dig up and lift out, then water well and find new planting sites, which other members did for me. There are other clumps which could be divided up in the autumn, making for a wider spread of wild flowers, which will further add to the Lakes stock of natural flowers. Our plants will need regular watering to help them become established and prosper in this present dry spell along with plug plants, also to be cared for. here are two photos from Saturday and one flowering plant from 2016 ….. Read MoretheWI Adderbury & District WI – WI GWS Wildflowers with KHH – Thursday, 30th March 2017 – – Springtime wild flowers are growing well
Dear Members, Adderbury & District WI GWS wildflower gardening at KHH last Thursday where, after the last few weeks of regular work on our areas within the main KHH beautiful gardens, our perennial plants now into their third year’s presence, are looking really good. This week the rake and hoe were applied enthusiastically, a few wild plants removed to the lower bed with its summer-shade canopy of greenery – so only weeds and thistles – knapweed – and others manage to survive, and edging work, which made our main bed look really good. The border of kindly given KHH plants – primroses etc, and plants from friends, are all at their Spring-Best performance and our second bed, still requiring a little attention, is doing its best to keep up with its neighbour. Hopefully, we shall be able to re-sow soon and already I’m looking forward to a bright summer of fresh and perennial wild flower blooms. And, news update for their annual Open Day at KHH – first weekend of June – on Sunday, 4th June and hopefully our WI wildflower area will be looking its best for this very special event and occasion. here’s how our area is looking good – now xxx Margaret Halstead...

Read MoretheWI Adderbury & District WI – Our Wildflower Areas at KHH & Adderbury Lakes – Wednesday, 29th March 2017
Dear Members. Our two Adderbury & District WI wildflower areas at KHH and Adderbury Lakes are waking up with the perennial plants from earlier plantings. Soon the ground will be ready for new seeds to be sown, some saved from last year’s blooms and others from unopened GWS seed packets we still have in our possession. Whats so super about these areas is the strength of those earlier sowings and the plants they have produced. Soon our gardens will be in bloom again, which is so very exciting. latest photos of KHH with the first pink Campion flower of 2017 and then Adderbury Lakes – Margaret Halstead xxx...

Dear Members, Our WI GWS wild flower garden at KHH is coming along rather nicely. I have visited on three times recently and been much impressed with the state of our perennial plants, which all look very healthy. Leaves have been swept away, the ground has been hoed and forked-over and hopefully, when the ground is a little warmer, new sowings of last year’s saved seeds will be made. We also have unopened seed boxes from 2016 to open and use and I’m really looking forward to another colourful explosion of wild flowers for this coming summer And at – Our WI wild flower areas at Adderbury Lakes are looking quite well, despite somewhat lacking digging and hoeing attention from our WI team gardeners. Our perennial plants look healthy and more sowings will happen soon, hopefully. Margaret Halstead...
