theWI Adderbury & District WI – Members Meeting and AGM – Thursday, 2nd March 2017

Posted by on Mar 3, 2017 in Reflections

Dear Members, We had an excellent Members Meeting and AGM at The Institute last night. Beryl Mann WI Adviser was in attendance and ran the voting for committee members and president for the year 2017-18. We were all delighted that Diane was voted in as President for another year. Two long-standing committee members, Caroline and Bernice, much to everyone’s great dismay stood down. Their presence will be very much missed. A new member, Cathy, agreed to join our committee and our first meeting of the new WI year will be held soon. For the evening’s entertainment, Pat kindly provided all the ingredients for spring cake decorations and soon we were modelling white rabbits and yellow chicks, adding tiny flowers to their stands and painting on faces. Pat even offered tiny cellophane bags to carry home our new treasures in. A Raffle, wine, soft drinks and nibbles, completed the evening’s entertainment, all of which was very much appreciated by all attending members. Floral bouquets were presented to Caroline and Bernice and to Beryl, whose birthday we saluted. Our evening began with a rousing rendition of WI Hymn, Jerusalem, composed by Hubert Parry in 1916. theWI Adderbury & District WI – WI Hosts Consultation Document Public Meeting – Wednesday, 22nd February 2017

Posted by on Feb 23, 2017 in Reflections

Dear Members, Adderbury & District WI hosted an excellent Consultation Document public meeting this evening at The Institute with key speakers  under the chairmanship of Roger Shapley of North Newington. Our speakers were Keith Strangwood, Chairman, Keep the Horton General, Roseanne Edwards, Banbury Guardian Journalist, Banbury National Health Party and ardent KTHG committee member, Andrew McHugh, a Councillor for Adderbury, Bloxham and Bodicote and Sophie Hammond, KTHG committee member, keenly advocating retention of the Horton Maternity Unit as a Consultant led Unit as against current downgrade status to a Midwife Led Unit. A full audience heard a host of compelling facts and figures against current Sustainability and Transformation Plans, the two-part consultation programme and the need for all local-based hospital and health care supporters to come together in a national protest movement to fight against Government plans to downgrade, and ultimately destroy, our NHS.   Margaret Halstead   Saturday, 25th February 2017 Dear Members I had mistakenly stated Roseanne Edwards as a KTHG committee member, which she is not allowed to be, because of possible bias risk as she writes on health issues in the Banbury Guardian . I have altered my report stating she is “an ardent supporter of retaining acute services at the Horton”  and would apologise for my error. Margaret Halstead Like · Reply · Just now ·...

Their care is upbeat, positive and encouraging for all clients and their families who need help for elderly relatives, whether it is respite care or full residential status.  Lake House is a people-friendly home in a green and pleasant, well-tended garden. Their positive and welcome embrace is heartfelt for all visitors, their residents and their families and also for all members of the local community of Adderbury, to whom they extend a warm greeting for whenever a visit may be made to Lake House.  Their many activities include the summer fete and regular coffee mornings and any visitor with a friendly dog in toe is always extremely appreciated. Our two very welcome guest speakers, Sally and her fellow staff member, gave all a very good insight in the lively day-to-day living at Lake House which was most informative, prompting a good question and answer session.
